Whether you just got your first apartment or moved to a new place, it is important to populate your living space with necessities to support your daily life. Here are a few items to have that will turn your house into a home – some are necessary to keep things clean and organised, while others are niceties that will make you go, “why didn’t I get this sooner?”
Basic Kitchenware and Dinnerware
Having a complete set of basic kitchenware and dinnerware would make your cooking experience more enjoyable and encourage you to eat in more. Don’t forget the utensils (spatulas, spoons, knives, tongs, graters, whisks), pots, pans, bakeware, plates, bowls, jugs, glasses and mugs.
From the small ones like microwave, toaster, slow-cooker, iron/steamer and hairdryers to the big ones such as washers and fridges, appliances will make chores easier and more convenient.
For a more cosy, homey place, don’t let your stuff pile up in cardboard boxes or on the floor. A functional storage system is a great investment – it doesn’t have to be fancy open shelves or expensive cadenzas (although they are nice to have) – try something simple such as bookshelves or baskets to begin with.
Maintaining cleanliness and hygiene is important – so keep your floors shining and your tables free of dust with the right instruments. A good vacuum cleaner is a good start – the more people you have in your household, the more it becomes essential. Squeegees, brushes, microfiber cloths, mop, dustpan and buckets are also important. If you have pets that shed a lot, getting a lint roller is a good idea.
This is the fun part – get some items that you love to add a personal touch to the house and make the space truly yours. Put photo frames on your table, add artwork on your walls, buy candles online to perk up your olfactory senses – anything goes!
